Garmin Smartphone Link App Reviews

Navigator

Biggest flaw I see in this app is literally the only thing I wanted out of it. You cannot type in a location to go to unless is it "near you". I wanted to be able to open the app, type in the address, get in my car and send it to my Garmin without ever touching it physically to put in the address. Biggest feature youd think it would have right?

Does quite alright...

Lets face it; this isnt a factory installed unit, so be realistic about what it does and how well it works. I have a 7 inch GPS screen unit, the Bluetooth wireless backup camera, and this app. App on the phone seems to connect and stay connected to the GPS unit and when the back up camera kicks in it doesnt interfere with that connectivity. The add-on purchases also work well. No major complaints here...

Driver

App only allows local searching. If you are in Florida and you want to go to a Georgia hotel, you are out of luck unless you know the address.

Connection fails every time

If it pairs and if it connects it will fail with 2 consecutive connection messages, iOS services disconnected, then iPhone disconnected. Its not a matter of If it disconnects, its a matter of when. The only way to maybe get it to work is to turn off Bluetooth on phone and nuvicam and then turn it back on on both devices and cross your fingers. I even subscribed to the traffic weather camera data plan for I believe 19.95/yr and its been a total waste of money. I own an iPhone 6+.

Does do any linking to GPS

Ive used the app for a while with my Zumo 590. While it wasnt stable it would usually work. With the new version, while I am connected with Bluetooth to the GPS, it constantly says waiting for app to respond. No amount of re-pairing Bluetooth, reinstalling app gets it to connect.

Not a "Smart" link

This app is anything but smart. 1 function - the most basic function for an app to assist with auto GPS, would be to send POI locations. Not locations from contacts. Not from suggestions from four square. But actually send POI info to GPS. Bought a new Nuvi for a 2,000+ mile trip. Thought this app would be easy for the co pilot to send locations without removing or messing with the gps physically while we were driving. But, theres lots of things Garmin is pushing to sell in this app. Please Garmin, rename it the Garmin Store app - not smart link. If I cant search and send locations like LAX, Disneyland, or major cities, its not a link app. Its a sell you a weather, traffic cam, enhanced traffic plan, and more add-ons app.

Great added tool for your Garmin but needs updates

Its a great option to search for POI or contact on phone and be able to save to send when in car with Garmin. Saves allot of time rather then waiting to do all that in car when Garmin is in hand. Some updates I hope to see. The map looks like something from way way back.... I am not sure whats up with that but facelift maps to something of this century. Have option to input address directly as well as trip plan so we can send a trip with multi waypoints. I did give it three stars as I do find it as a useful tool as my phone is always in hand and gives me a head start on my navigational planning. Especially when recently switching over from phone navigation to an actual navigation Garmin device.

FIX SENDER TO GPS UNIT

*******Please fix the issue sending an address to the gps unit it stopped working months ago!!**********

Limited Address Input

Great app, super convenient, BUT unless you enter an address in your contact, and lunch it from there, the address search is LIMITED to nearby locations only...

Garmin Smart Phone Link

You just trashed my program. Fails to open in Operating System 7.1. There was no warning that it required 8.0 or 9.0. Oh well, did without it before, Ill figure out how to do without it again. Your Bluetooth connection with an iPhone has always been dicey. Even the Garmin GPS goes long periods of time unable to connect, then it works for awhile, then it doesnt again. Sometimes shows connected, but when a call comes in, it isnt, and I have to ignore the call, or answer illegally.

No longer works

Bought a new iPhone 6S while on vacation two weeks ago. We had a rental car and were using our Garmon nuvi 2797 (which is current with all software updates). It worked fine with the old phone but no longer works with the new phone. Disappointing considering the 6Ss have been out for a while.

Avoid like a plague

This application devours your phones battery. Within 20 minutes of riding, my freshly charged iPhone 6 lost 50% of battery charge. Interface was OK, could use a tad of TLC. Services were not that useful.

Hate it

Dont waste your time. Paid the 20 bucks for the live traffic part to become active. You cant see the map because of the warning signs. The low resolution does not work. Save your money.

Bluetooth disconnect

When it works its good but it constantly disconnects from the GPS unit. my phone is 7 inches from gps unit. Please fix stability of this app

Needs work

Looks to be straightforward, if it will Bluetooth to my iPhone 6S. In the app, "pick location" option, it will not send coordinates to my zumo. Its been waiting to send for 3 days now.

Waste of time

Wont open on my phone with current ios. Your "upgrade" appears to have been, in fact, a retrograde movement.
